Brotherhood keeps Maspore going for another year

In my family there is me and my sister. Although I don’t have a blood brother, I know what brotherhood is.
It is an unconditional love that is strong, as the bond between brothers, be it family or friends grows over time.
And that is what the fourth Maspore Games which starts tomorrow in Penang is all about.
It all started in Perak in 2014 with a few brothers wanting to promote friendship, unity and sportsmanship among their community then became a respectable annual event with participants coming from every corner of Singapore.
Five different sports namely hockey, badminton, netball, darts and football will be played in the two-day event in locations around the island which sees more than 500 people involved.

Like in any sporting events, especially smaller ones, funding is always the biggest issue the organisers faced.

“We do it for the love. Yes, we still need to make sure we can afford it and everyone is happy at the end of the day but we want to make sure we do our part in ensuring what we can do to make our community happy,” said Jagdave Singh, the head-founding member of the Maspore Games.
Jagdave, along with five other ‘brothers’ made a decision in 2014 to organise some games to give their widespread family and friends an opportunity to play sports in a fun and comfortable environment and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
“Our brothers and sisters of all ages getting together having fun playing their favourite sports in a competitive manner, what could be better than that?”, he said.
“We also hope maybe one day we could unearth a talent good enough to represent the state or country and provide a professional career for him or herself. Outcomes like this although a dream now, is something worth working hard for,” he added.
Seven clubs from five Malaysian states and Singapore namely Buntong Sikhs, Punjabi FC, Selangor Shuttlers, United Bro's, Klang Sikhs, Jurong Sikhs FC, United Sis's have confirmed participation for the two-day event .

“We hope to grow over the years and inviting other neighbouring nations to join us,” said Jagdave.
